Hi all. I wonder if you can help 'translate' the school years.

My wife is reading the curriculum for Art, and needs to know what the equivalent of the Years listed therein. What is Year 1 to Year 13 and how do these compare with grades, in the context of South African schools?


What is the normal school leaving year, and what is the age of a learner in Year 10, and Year 13?

I think that it is year 13 that is causing all the trouble in our conversion attempts!

High School years are year 9 to year 13.

Year 10 children are 14 years old.
