We submitted Expression of Interest in May but no answer yet, and OH was main applicant as he is in the movie industry and got extra points for being in one of the Clusters (Film Auckland). Now that the cluster section is no longer going to be valid after the 31st July we have had to seriously consider how it will effect us should we not get invited to apply this time around and have to re-submit. I'm not sure whether we will have more or less points at this stage  , but we've decided to take the plunge and have booked tickets to NZ for the 3rd October with the intention of trying to secure employment before resubmitting EOI.

The problem is, and I am hoping someone will be able to assist, is that OH has a classic car which he is determined (:roll )to ship over (if all things plan out for us) and I have repeatedly email the correct authorities asking for the rules and regulations pertaining to classic cars...and almost 2 months later still received no reply  . The shipping companies that we have had in can only give us info on cars made after 1995. Can anyone help with this as my OH heart would break if he had to sell his beloved vehicle!

You haven't said how old the car is, but this infosheet details all the standards and years that they need to comply with:- infosheet-1-10 (http://www.landtransport.govt.nz/publications/infosheets/infosheet-1-10.html)

I believe that if the car is more than 20 years old then it doesn't have to comply with any standards of compliance.

Not sure why they can only provide details after 1995 as some of the rules are for 1990 onwards?

Hi
We exported a classic car from N.Z to the U.K and used a company based in Christchurch called Dr Heins classic cars. They export and import classic cars all around the world and were extremely helpful and professional. See website www.classics.co.nz. Hope this helps

My OH work for classic car restoration company in chch, I will ask him for you :nice1

Right, he said, what type of classic car and how old it is please?
As his company deal with so many different type of cars from overseas, there was few problems with some cars and some cars are no problems. You are welcome to PM us for more informations.

One thing that we were told when looking at importing our camper was that any rust will need to be cut out and re welded - probably not much of a problem if the classic car is well maintained.

The big problem is that any welding needs to be cut out and re welded, if your car is anything like my camper, there will be welding so the cost of this could be prohibitive. It certainly put us off.

Any one want to buy a 1979 VW camper?:D

Thanks so much for the replies! Vehicle is a Ford F100 Truck, 1973 model and a monster (I need helping hand climbing into this thing!) He has been restoring it for the past year, replaced the bed, re-sprayed it, just fitted a V8 engine and other things I know absolutely nothing about :). We know that we need a roadoworthy certificate and police clearance certificate ( I am assuming that at least this part of the info given by the shipping companies is true!). I don't think there is any rust on it as it was re-sprayed just 6 months ago..

If this is a LHD vehicle I've heard that you won't be able to sell it for 10 years, an attempt to stifle LHD cars from being imported. Might be a rumour, might not be 10 years but worth checking out.

Thanks so much for all of this, OH is home today so will sit him down in front of the PC and get his to go through all the information. I just wanted to say thank you for all the information, without your help and guidance we wouldn't be half as organised as we are!:D

The actual time you must keep the left hand car after importing it is 5 years - see this link for more information Importing a Left-hand drive vehicle (http://www.ltsa.govt.nz/factsheets/12.html)

As the Ford F100 Truck is more than 20 years old even if it were LHD it would be exempt from the rules.
