Hi, we've been in NZ for just over 18 months (and still absolutey loving it). We went back to the UK last month for Nic's bro's wedding (this only cemented our decision to stay in NZ, it was great to see all the family and our friends too, but our lives over here are so much fuller - and Nic's brothers house [which we were looking after whilst they were away on honeymoon] flooded probably sealed our minds)

Anyhow, when we were back we boxed a load of our stuff that we'd like to ship over here. Its probably about 20 medium sized boxes, so it'll only take up a fraction of a 20ft container. I was of the understanding that the shipping companies we come and re-box (for insurance purposes) and then take away, finally shipping it over once the container is full.

Because we're pretty unorganised as a couple we left this to the last minute, and left the shipping companies contact numbers with my folks. They were Crown, PSS, Britannia & John Mason (all London offices).

My mum has since called and they all said that we'd be better off getting a local company to ship it as it'll cost a fortune for them to come down to North Hampshire from London????

Is this just my mum putting across the wrong message or has anyone else had similar experiences? Does anyone know how much roughly I should be having to pay to ship that much across. I thought i'd ask on here before getting on the phone to find out myself. Any recommendations for Hampshire based companies too would be great.

Much appreciated

Cheers

Mike

P.S We shipped over our cat with Airpets on our return trip, they were awesome if anyone is thinking of doing the same.

John Masons have a warehouse in Croydon. They told us they were willing to have stuff delivered there for shipping, to go in shared container. Would have to do some negotiation, but sounds like your stuff would all fit in a transit van...very cheap for relative to deliver stuff to depot, as long as prearranged.

Same probably applies to other companies as well, but I know about John Masons, as I asked them about this in case we found anything extra we had forgotten about, or wanted to ship.

Hi,
PSS and Crown cover the whole of the UK and have branches throughout the country. The rep from PSS said they have a branch in Southampton. Also on their website they will give you an excess baggage price either by air or ship for those who only have boxes.

Hope this helps

I can only speak from personal experience on this one.
I would never use PSS again, even if they offered me a free service.
