hi,
I hope someone can help me, we are arriving in Auckland on 16 Nov and I will be starting my new job on 1 Dec. Now I have a 4 year old son and he will have to go to daycare. We have settled on renting in Mission Bay. I need some help with daycare in that area, anyone that has contacts/sugestions?? Should I contact the day care now or after I arrive??
Please, please anyone I am desperate!

Annette,
I don't live in Mission Bay, so can't recommend any day care people or places but would strongly recommend getting in touch with potential day care providers as soon as possible.

It is obviously better if you can visit a daycare, but some of them do have long waiting lists, particularly in the "nicer" areas. I would get your child onto a couple of waiting lists, or at least check out the length of a waiting lise (if they have one)

I have friends that use kindercare, two different centres, and they are both happy with them (kids are 18 months old), but neither of them use Remuera or Kohimarama which would be the nereast for you at Mission Bay, heres the website

Finding daycare is stressful enough without being in another country and on a deadline, so you have my sympathy.

Daycare near your workplace is another option; where will you be working?

I agree with Gil & Jubjub, you definitely want to get on those waiting lists as soon as possible.

Here's our recent experience; feel free to PM me.

No direct info on Mission Bay but here's a couple of other threads with some daycare info:

You could get his name down for kindys in the area, they're not full time but with the free 20 hours providing the kindy is participating that can be quite a bit of money saved. You could then find a childminder who would be happy picking him up from kindy or find a day care centre that picks your child up from kindy for the rest of the time.
