Hi All
How do you go about getting your own medical records from the UK? Before we left for NZ I asked & was told by the receptionist that the doctor we'd register with would request them.We haven't registered with a doctor in NZ as we're on WP but can we do this? Is this how you do it? I'd like to get the medical side of this in order in anticipation of achieving ITA. We'll definately have some issues that I'm sure NZIS will pick up on regarding ops in the past. I'd really appreciate some guidance.

We asked our doctors for a copy of our medical records before we left the uk, and brought them with us.

I would write to your doctors , and see if they can post a copy onto you, however they may not want to do this without a fee?! It might be worth waiting till you register with a doctor and then giving them the information of your last Gp so they can request the information themselves!

UK doctors in NHS practices are not supposed to charge you more than £10 per person for medical records. Unless you have extensive record or long term condition, you could consider asking for a medical summery instead. This basically details kids immunisations, repeat prescriptions, medical conditions, maybe details of last few appointments etc. They are supposed to provide this for free, as they can print it off their computer systems. It is perfectly acceptable for registering with NZ GP or any medicals you may need, unless you have complicated long term condition.

We got a summary of our details from our GP in the UK, though they did charge us £15 for the two. I gave these to our new GP in NZ and that was fine.

Thanks for all the replies. Sorry for being dense but Lupin, does that mean we should be able to register even though on WP?
