Bella arrived (very scared from the journey) from Australia last weekend -

She's a Lagotto Romagnolo, one of only three in NZ, originally bred as a water retriever in Italy, they are now used primarily for snuffling truffles, which is the main reason for us bringing her here.

We are bringing another little girl over here at the end of August from a different breeder in Australia and do hope to breed from them in the future.

She's been busy chewing everything and leaving messages all over the place for us !!:roll

Fantastic news - a UK rare breed over to NZ. We're bringing two Hungarian Wirehaired Viszlas ( still trying to find out how many there are in NZ) but also a Korthal's Griffon from France (They're Wirehaired Pointing Griffons in the US). I don't think there are any in NZ yet. We'd decided to import Brie from France before we made the decision to go to NZ. We have to wait until 23rd September to go and get her after 6 months post-rabies jab clearance with my niece in France. There are only a handful in the UK so we're planning on bringing in another bitch (possibly in whelp and an unrelated dog once we're properly settled.) Much more research to do - not to mention saving up.

The NZ Kennel Club are very helpful but I'm finding it a bit difficult to get a response from some of the local societies.

... but I'm finding it a bit difficult to get a response from some of the local societies.

... tell me about it, we've tried to join Wellington Working Dogs club (as ultimately she will be 'working') and had poor experiences with contact and we are still waiting to hear if we/she can join - which is a pre-requisite of joining the Kennel Club.

@ Park City Partner - yes, truffle growing is very much a fledgling industry in NZ but it is slowly growing (if you'll pardon the pun!! :laugh )

There is a New Zealand Truffle Association -
