I have not posted here much lately but thought I would pass this on. We have now been here about 2 years and just got back from a one month visit ‘home’, our first. While it was great to see family, California felt a bit foreign to us and was far too hot! It was hard being around that many people and I miss the ‘niceness’ factor that you find in NZ. The airport people there have a lot to learn!

Without a doubt NZ is home now, it was really great to get back. No place is perfect but as a place to live I far prefer NZ to LA! From a material standpoint we are/would be better off in LA (except of housing). Things are cheap there no doubt but you pay for it in other ways. We have a much better quality of life here in NZ and I am grateful to have been given a chance to live here.

Have to admit I do miss the material side at times and had some pangs of that while visiting (I like nice fast cars!) and also miss family but that is about it. We have a far better network of friends here and we did not see family that much when we lived there.

As has been said before, the whole process has a lot of ups and downs but I can now see a clear shift for us where the normal has become NZ and the foreign is becoming what used to be home.

For us, the decision to move was absolutely one of the best decisions we have ever made.

Good to hear from you Chris and glad you're settled. It's way too hot here in NYC and I can't wait to get to a cooler climate. Not far off now.
