hi all
Quick query we have recently bought new PC here in the UK and wondered if worth shipping over when we move to NZ or not? Not particularly high spec and we could sell on here fairly easily - anybody got useful links to NZ websites regarding prices and quality?
Thanks

Hi,

Click on 'View Catalog'. Typical prices here. Last year prices were ridiculous for what you got, now looks like they've gotten better (still expensive though).
You might find cheaper prices in NZ here:

Just a thought: Are you stopping over (or possibly a transfer with several hours to spare and able to exit the airport) Singapore and plan to do a little electronics shopping? For all you know, you might be able to get a decently-priced laptop here if you head for the IT-speciality malls. I've been told by several overseas friends that electronics here are considered cheaper, so that might be an alternative for you if you decide to sell the PC in the UK.

Prices of computers in NZ, for what you get, are stupidly high. Ship one out with you. I bought a laptop and 2 PC's. I wish I brought more. :no

Thanks folks
Plan to fly via states if not too expensive so maybe will ship out current PC as am planning to ship furniture and stuff too. Although given that PCs do seem so expensive maybe helpful to buy cheap and cheerful laptop to do us until stuff arrives in NZ - food for thought!
Thanks again

Oh dear. I had a quick look on the DELL site, and the prices seemed somewhat comparable (well, in pounds, that was). Did I check out the wrong things? I also looked at an iPod, that was roughly the same. I looked at this for the insurance (to find out what the replacement values would be).
You have me worried now, I'll go and recheck.

I believe Apple products have their prices more or less standardised worldwide, and you can only get a deal on them if you have a favourable currency exchange rate. It could be the same with Dell.

Try www.pricespy.co.nz (http://www.pricespy.co.nz), although the PC stuff is more on components, it'll give you a good idea of prices on other consumer gadgets. Bear in mind that the really low prices are from parrallel imports, so no manufacturers warranty other than what you get from the shop.

Can confirm that buying from DELL is just as cheap buying in NZ as in UK. Last time I bought something from them (Monitor) it actually worked out cheaper from NZ than it would have been from the UK.
This is only a pounds to dollar conversion though, so in real terms was probably more expensive i.e. comparing NZ income to UK income.
One other point, for DELL their delivery times are not very fast e.g. it takes weeks to get your order in NZ.

We just needed a new laptop, and after looking on pricespy (already mentioned) we found these guys were the cheapest. Bonus was it just round the corner from me, so I walked and fetched it, very good service and a nice lady too!

Sorry, should clarify. I'm just after a bottom end PC for the youngest boy. I haven't found anything to compare with the place I used in the UK.

Take into account I'm now spending $$$$, not ££££. I'm working to the 1/2 the cost of everything as I'm earning double in $ that I did in £.
If anyone knows where I could find a real cheapy in NZ, I'd be grateful.:nice1

Thanks Ian. That site looks promising. I only want the CPU and they have one on there for $498. Just what I wanted to pay! :nice1

Our new neighbour reccomends these people. She buys reconditioned second hand from them but they also do new and made to order.
Hope this helps
