To sort out a rental agreement?

I am looking to book a Motel ready for when we first arrive in Christchurch.

Once we find somewhere to rent - how long does the paperwork etc take.

Will two weeks in a Motel be long enough?

Any/all info will be much appreciated.

Cheers
Jim

we moved into our rental house within 48hours after found it. It is depend on is rental house is already empty? How quick you pay the bond, rent upfront? (take cash with you once you found the place to rent) Have you rent place before in UK? bring ref from old landlord with you, if not, bring extra cash as they will ask you up to 4weeks rent instead of 2 weeks to cover themselves. Who is going to be your ref if haven't got landlord in the past, how quickly they can contact this person (ideally use NZ people like we used motel people to be our ref (ask your first) cos it help landlord to contact ref people quicker than wait till UK people wake up)
Two weeks at motel is enough, you might find yourself ready to leave before that, is your motel people are very flexible that will they let you go early? as we booked for a week, then overstayed by few days while looking for rental house in chch, they happy to change the leaving date each day...
Which motel are you going to?

we booked a 2 week stay at the howick motor lodge with Mandy and Dave (expats), have just managed to sort a rental after 6 days of being in NZ, move out of lodge on Saturday, Dave and Mandy have been fantastic and will charge us for the time we have spent here.
Any one relocating into the auckland/eastern bay area wouldnt go far wrong by booking the initial stay here, as well as good rates, Dave and Mandy are very helpfull with providing information and help such as printing off IRD forms from the net and receiving rental agreements via their fax machine.

Finding the right property can be very stressfull, we must have viewed 20+ properties over the last few days until we eventually found the right one for us.
After the first few days we started to get frustrated and a little upset that we couldnt find anything suitable and we eventually found ourselves having to up our budget to find the right property, but stick to it and you will find what you want.

good luck with the search

Might have to ask for Mandy and Daves contact numbers - as we might need them when we get to Auckland at beginning of next year.

Thanks
