As we're getting ready to make the move, we have made preparations to rent our condo, as well as free ourselves from a number of our possessions. So, we had what we called a "house-cooling" party. As opposed to a house-warming party, where guests bring gifts, we had family and friends over to take things. ^ It did work out well. Things we had a hard time getting rid of went to family and friends, making it easier to let go. Plus, when you mark nice things down to yard sale prices, people hustle to get them. It was also great to have everyone over, just to hang out even.

Great idea...very fun invite! Was your house REALLY that cleared out right after everyone left?? If so, looks like THE way to do it! Why bother with tagging and hauling everything outside for a rummage sale if everyone (you trust) can come in and make an offer?

No, it was a mess after everyone left, and then we had the yard sale. THEN it was that cleared out. :) But I still feel like it was the way to do it.
