I hope you bought them in NZ and didn't bring them through customs :raebanana

I was selected :D I think it's going to be a while before I hear from them again though, since I have no job offer and hence not a priority for Immigration NZ to process my application (or so, I believe).

We got selected, even though the goalposts were moved on 31st July and we couldn't claim the bonus points for qualification in an area of long-term skills shortage. I cried when I saw that little word 'selected' and I've looked at it every day ever since to make sure it's still there! I presume we just sit tight and wait for a letter from Immigration now?
We'll go out in November regardless. Does anyone know if we can get a temporary work visa at the same time as applying for full residency? Saying this because I'm guessing it'll take more than 3 months to get residency!
Katie :cheers

yes you can apply for temp work permits.
If you have a job offer then you should get your ITA within a week, without it could take months.
When I spoke to NZIS yesterday they said that they had been very busy in the week before 1st August with people getting paperwork in before the prices changed.
We have only 2 weeks from lodging ITA until our flights so we have also completed work permits / student permits in case there is a problem. hopefully these wont be lodged as it will mean another £400 that I would rather not spend but I am willing ot spend if the alternative is staying here.

Amen to that - sounds like you can't wait to get away - and I understand completely where you're coming from! Do we have to get return flight tickets if we go without any visas? I read somewhere (unless I dreamt it - there's alot of stuff to read!!) that if you can prove you have the funds to buy a return ticket, you can go out on a single ticket. When we went out earlier this year, though, we had to show customs our return tickets so they'd believe we intended to come back to the UK!

It's just sunk in that you said ITA in a WEEK! Well done you! We'd better try a bit harder with the job hunting, I think. Seems a bit quiet outside of Christchurch on South Island at the moment because of the winter. Maybe it'll liven up a bit over the next few weeks and we should start 'phoning round. Great advice, Specky - you've put my mind at rest!

From what I had been led to believe, if you go without visas (orn a holiday visa) then you need to have return tickets, or at least tickets for leaving NZ.
On hte work permit form it asks how you will pay for travel from NZ when the time comes, and I filled in savings and funds from employment.
We are in a rush as OH has a job starting 3rd Sept.

What a great way to go! It's probably really traumatic, but at least you won't be waiting around for months and you'll soon be THERE! Have a wonderful new life...........

For us more than 6 weeks with job offer (skills shortage area) from Decision sucessful to ITA ariving... They say 10 working days on the website, but ours was way over.

Thank you!
I can't wait to return to NZ (was there once as a tourist). Been browsing trademe for a while now to get an idea of available flat rentals, even though I know it'll be quite a while before I will be approved as a resident there. I can't help it! :D

Has anyone heard anything yet since the 1st August selection? I hear there's a massive backlog, so I shouldn't be surprised at not receiving an ITA yet! The notice just says conducting 'preliminary enquiries' - not sure what these are or how long they take. I'm not wonderfully patient at the best of times!! The NZ website said we should hear within 4 weeks, so they are running a bit late! :roll
