Try this site - NZ Government site details treks and walks.

The Milford Track (http://www.doc.govt.nz/templates/trackandwalk.aspx?id=36688) is the biggy of course, I've only done part of the Routeburn (http://www.doc.govt.nz/templates/trackandwalk.aspx?id=36713) and that was spectacular.

Hi Ben and Clare. Don't know of any walks but just want to say Hi and hope you find plenty of lovely walks.

In New Zealand, walking is called "Tramping" and there are literally hundreds of "Tramps" spread across the country. Many of these are multi day trips that involve carrying your own gear in a rucksack and either camping or staying in one of a network of huts operated by the Department of Conservation. Others can be much shorter from only a couple of hours upwards. It really depends on where about in NZ you are as to the characteristics of the Tramps. Around Auckland, they tend to be bush walks with the occasional viewpoint. In the Southern Alps, there are more alpine crossings, glacier hikes etc. The DoC has identified a series of walks (and one paddle!) as "classic" in their nature and has called them Great Walks (http://www.doc.govt.nz/templates/CustomSummary.aspx?id=42468).

Hope this helps :)
