Hello,

Has anyone leased or considered leasing a car?

We have a rental booked for 3 weeks on arrival but dont want to rush into a purchase until we know how many miles we will do and if it will be city or rural driving etc.

Is it possible/reasonable cost to lease something for say 12 months?

Thanks

Hi Helen & Phil,
I doubt that you will find leasing an economical or worthwhile option the minimum term will almost certainly be 12 months plus and you will normally be responsible for all running costs, insurance, maintenance etc.
I think I would probably look at long term rental or car purchase with a guaranteed buy-back value at a set date in the future. With the later you will still be responsible for running costs but have the advantage of being able to keep the vehicle if you wish or perhaps trade it in for another.
If you’re interested in buy-back I would talk to local used car dealers once you have arrived.
Personally I would and will, rent until I am ready to purchase the right vehicle.
Check out EZY car rentals www.ezy.co.uk they rent what they call El Cheapo vehicles for $15 per day; they are supposedly vehicles with high mileages up to about ten years old.
I’ve used them several times, each time having booked ‘El Cheapo’, I’ve yet to receive anything other than a virtually new car. So I can highly recommend them, their located close to Auckland airport and offer a free shuttle bus from terminal building.
Hope that helps
