Hi All

Yet another daft question from me but I always seem to get useful responses so I'll keep asking! We are trying to get together as much of the required information as possible for the ITA when (if) it comes. Medicals, police checks etc seem quite straightforward but I wondered what sort of evidence you have to present regarding work experience. My hubby is principal applicant and is claiming points for over 10 years experience - does he have to get references/letters from all previous employers? Is this still the case even if you have job offer from NZ?

As always very grateful for all your help:)

He needs letters from employers to prove his 10 years claim of work experience.

These letters need to state the dates he worked for them, the position he held and how many hours he worked on average per week.

If he worked part-time (I think 30 hours or less per week) then one years work only counts as 6 months experience.

And yes, he will still need to do this even with a job offer.

Hi Julie

I thought so - thanks for confirming as we'll need to get started on that asap. Thankfully hubby as kept in touch with previous boss etc so shouldn't be too hard.

Cheers

The job offer means they will probably approve all this lovely info you are gathering really fast rather than put it in a heap with everyone else's!!

Good luck!

I did NOT contact any previous employers. I simply supplied paycheck stubs, invoice stubs, and company produced tax records for my past jobs and customers. That seemed to be enough for NZ immigration in my case. You have a job offer on top of that, so you should be in even better shape than I was.

We had a letter from OHs current boss stating evidence from current role and previous roles plus year end tax statements for all previous years employment.
Hope to find out next week if it is enough.

Yes, quite agree that if you have been self employed or contract working then the documentation requirements would differ.

Just to clarify this statement:-

Work experience is counted as at least 30 hours per week (any more hours per week still counts as only one week) e.g. if you do a 40 hour week then you can claim this as one weeks experience.

If you have worked part time then the hours worked are a percentage of 30 hours per week. For example, if you worked 15 hours per week for a year then this would count as 6 months experience.
