Yes they do have them for formal events - so I would say pack it.
It depends as well what role you are in? My first Black Tie do was the "Fight For Life" event a few weeks ago, but that after 2.5 years here and nothing up until then.

yes pack it - we listened to the hype about Kiwis not going to formal events, then had to rent a DJ for a Ball! There are events all over that need more formal dress, and there are a lot of Pubs/clubs in Invercargill that will not allow you to wear patches - gang affiliated (seriously - they wouldnt allow the pipeband club members in as they had their logo'd Jumpers on!) /trainers or work boots,
I am going to bring over my OH stuff thats still in the UK when we go back next may

ooohhh on this topic.....
I take it that it's acceptable to wear formal kilt if one was invited to a black tie 'do' here in NZ (for the OH obviously :D)

Just as well, cause you'd never catch the OH in a penguin suit :D

Ahh okay, thank you. I kept thinking of Disc Jockey and was picturing people walking around with a guy wearing headphones carrying turntables on their back.

Oh, that's how it used to be: nowadays you can hardly recognise true DJ's because of what's hidden along/under their black-ties, they have "little" bluetooth-knobs in their ears and scratch their iPods on the table (and hopefully polish it afterwards with their ties..)
