Hi All

First post! Husband and I will becoming to Wellington from 25 December to 7 January 2008 on a reccie trip. Can anyone give us any suggestions of what's on for New Years Eve around the Wellington area or is there somewhere better to go close by.
We are in our mid thirties, so enjoy live music but not into the club scene anymore.

Also can any of the locals advise if recruitment agencies and estate agencies still operate over that period or do most of them close down for the holiday?

Hello & welcome Two Dogs,
Can’t comment on Wellington at New Year’s, however be warned that the vast majority of recruitment agents, real estate agents, lawyers and other professionals, do close over Christmas and New Year, choosing to take their summer holiday at that time. In fact, in my experience (Hawke's Bay last year) NZ is basically closed for business in the first week of January or at best only open for limited hours.
Hope that helps, and welcome again
James

Based on our experience arriving in WLG on New Year's Day, I'd say you will be able to follow up on very, very few job leads during that time. The town pretty much shuts down until the day you plan to leave, and doesn't get into full swing until two weeks later.

You'll be able to speak with all the estate agents you wish, though.
