Just five more weeks to go before baby arrive :raebanana but just seven weeks to go is my MIL is coming to stay for 5/6months stay in NZ :clap :clap
My OH and I am trying to pool together of suggestions of places for my MIL to visits and travelling around NZ with us or without us...
Because of her age (whisper..77) but she is very active...there is likely that she may not come back again if anything happen to her etc..so my OH is keen to show everything about NZ to her hence she is here for 5/6months.
Can everyone give us suggestions of place that she must visit while she is in NZ..
I got milford sounds by campervan and pancake rock as planned, I know she want go on train to greymouth from christchurch via trans-alpines as well as visit local chch's like gondola, boat trip, willowbank, akaroa etc.
Any more ideas to ensure we have not forgotten?
Also my OH want to know where is the best place to go to have scenic flight via helicopter for my OH and MIL ? while I stay on the ground with three children(:( )?
Thanks lots!!

What about a scenic flight over Queenstown / Wanaka?
If you don't mind travelling to North Island Rotorua might be interesting, I guess it depends on what their interests are.
Glow worm caves were a big hit when we were in NZ! But maybe we're just weird :D

Hanmer Springs definitely... we stopped there whilst travelling around NZ about 6 yrs ago and it was gorgeous. The thermal springs place where Kiwis go rather than just the tourists.
Rotorua was fascinating due to all the thermal activity.
Christchurch was beautiful.
We went to Fox Glacier but any of the Glaciers on South Island would be worth a visit.
Err... can't think of anything else at the moment its been a while since we travelled around NZ. Hope to remind ourselves in the future now we are here for good.

You have to go and see at least one big Volcano while in NZ....how about Mt Taranaki. Not been yet, but it's on my list of things to see!
Or whale watching trip or see some seal pubs on the beach...not too far from Christchurch.
Bay of Islands....have seen loads of coach trips advertised from Auckland, so MIL could go by herself if she wanted to!

A neat day out we had was to fly over the mountains by small plane from Queenstown to Milford Sound, take the boat trip on the sound, then helicopter back to Queenstown, stopping en-route on top of one of the mountains where we got out of the helicopter and the pilot took our picture!!!!. On the flights we were the only 2 passengers.

A few more north island ideas.
If your MIL can manage steps then Orakei Korako (Hidden valley) near Taupo is a great place to visit. Whilst there visiting Taupo and Huka falls are also worthwhile.
If you get to Wellington then Te Papa, Tour around Parliament, Cable car and the Botanic gardens are all worth a visit.
