One of the things we have always liked during our visits to NZ is Hokey Pokey Ice Cream, but have never found it in the UK. We've just moved to Dorset (UK) and decided to visit Poole last weekend. Walking through the Dolphin Shopping Centre (http://www.dolphin-shopping-centre.co.uk/index.php) there we spotted a New Zealand Natural (http://www.newzealandnatural.com/) ice cream stand - something we'd never seen before in the UK. I was just remarking on this to the OH when we both said "Hope Pokey"! Sure enough there it was - 2 scoops each please! :nice1

Ooh, that was a good find! NZ natural is my fave ice cream stall.. apart from the little gelateria at the ferry terminal here in Auckland....

got me wanting one now... too late to go out though!

You can get NZ Natural ice creams through Stratford Fine Foods - http://www.stratfordfinefoods.com/ they are a wholesale supplier and it only comes in 9 litre tubs and the minimum spend is £50. Hokey Pokey is £42 plus vat for 2x 9L - only place I know of. They do loads of stuff as well. I have been running my own business and use them as a supplier.

If you are anywhere near London, there is a kiwi bar in Ealing - Bar Baroque that sells it too.

I remember the Dolphin Shopping Centre, as I used to do a bit of work on it. It's undergone a transformation in recent years. Sounds like the stalls are going upmarket too, if you can get your Hokey Pokey. :laugh

We discovered Hokey Pokey ice-cream in the first few weeks and we love it. Now it's a permanent feature in the deepfreeze. Julie

Hokey Pokey is like the filling inside a Crunchie bar. Watch out for your teeth. :D

Sort of related:

Larry LaPrise, the man who wrote "The Hokey Pokey," died peacefully at the age of 83. The most traumatic part for his family was getting him into the coffin.

They put his left leg in. And then the trouble began …

GROAN! Hodges, that's awful :laugh

on-topic: I don't know exactly what IS in hokey-pokey flavored ice cream, but wow is it good. I'm pretty fond of Kapiti Ice Cream's Gingernut and their Golden Kiwi Pavlova flavors, too MMM. When we went up to Levin to visit our dogs in quarantine it was also an excuse to stop at the Lindale Farm center and try a new flavor :D

been looking for Hokey pokey for years in the uk, will place a large order for 2 x 9l and then eat it all whilst teasing the relatives about good it is. Oh the memories come flooding back, hokey pokey after a day at Browns Bay, or a Jelly Tip ice cream, loverly...........

You can get it in the supermarket, Tip Top, in the square blue tubs... that way you can check its OK for you on the ingredients list....

Thanks.....will see if OH will let me get some this week. He tries to be sneaky and walk really fast past all the isles with 'yummy' stuff in case I get carried away. I never do mind you! :)

Oh, and Andreamatt, tip top is the better supermarket one, but if you get to an NZ natural shop, that is nicer still.

Nope - I'm with you on that one. I can't stand the stuff.

I had to visit TipTop when working at Fonterra - it rather put me off all ice cream for a while.
I now make my own, but have been tempted by Movenpick occasionally when out in Mission Bay.

Local Ice Cream parlour in Browns Bay opened a couple of weekends ago for the summer season but it doesn't sell hokey pokey. It does do an award winning caramel plus some interesting sorbets, but no HP (SOB!!):(
