Hi all,
I am trying to put some figures against the major costs. so far my list includes:
Ship belongings
Transfer dog
Flights for family
Immigration fees and maybe agent
Temp accommodation (2 weeks?)
Rental accommodation (6 months)
Car
Shortfall on UK home mortgage, after rental income
Sure I have missed something, any thoughts?
Take care,
James

Hi,
MAF fee's, Insurance for travelling, don't know whether you've looked into thsi but f your renting property out mortgage companies ( apparently) may increase payments by 1%, cost of transport to and from accomodation depending where you are settling in NZ...Im sure there will be lots more!!!!!!!!!!!

ooops, just noticed 'major costs'...you may not think the above are major, but I think its all the little ones put together that are the ones to worry about!

I wouldn't bother with agents. Just use this site and save a small fortune.

Eating expenses will be higher at first because you will be eating out more often until you get settled in a place with a kitchen and get your food organized.

Replacements for common household items you will want before your belongings arrive, but that won't necessarily be packed in your luggage.
Things like dishware, sheets, small kitchen appliances, towels and similar come to mind. Not large expenses but something that will add up.
I'd suggest budgeting for a slush fund for miscellaneous expenses.

Thanks guys, lots of good points to consider.
The idea of a contigency/slush fund is excellent, it is amazing how all the little items add up to a big number! I also forgot to consider the time gap between us arriving and our stuff arriving!
The use of an agent seems to generally get a negative response throughout the forum, I am thinking of just using employment agencies and doing the immigration stuff myself, sure the forum will have loads of advice to help.
Thanks again,
James
