Going to start our EOI tomorrow, finally, decided not to use the agency.

Question. If my husband is a Sales Manager, does he have to get a job as a manager or can he get a job as a Sales Exec or business development manager, and still get the same points.

Also his work experience, is this just related to the time he has been a Manager or all the sales work leading up to it.

I know the question is a bit specific, but hope someone will be able to help.

Also the the Christchurch Crew, My husband is now wondering if he will get a job out there in sales, are there many positions going.

Happy new year to you all.

JO

Jo,
if you are using the Skilled Migrant category, then the points are based on your husbands' qualifications and work experience leading up to the submission of the EOI (or that's as I understand it). But my experience with this emigration malarkey is very limited (only what I've read on the NZIS website, and more recently on this WONDERFUL forum). So thie following is only the way I interpret it:
I'm not sure what limitations will be attached to any Visa that is eventually granted regarding future work (although I personally intend to work in my 'skilled' field, at least to start, as this is likely to be the easiest in which to earn a reasonble wage). But I don't think there are any (limitations)

As regards work experience, this is a tricky one. My actual job at the moment is akin to an Electronics Engineer, but I am not degree qualified so cannot fill this position on the EOI. However, I am qualified as an Electronics Technician, (and can honestly say that I can do this role) so I chose that category. As it happens, the Technician was on the POL list and so I got extra points.
If you look at the category numbers in front of job descriptions, you will see that some carry the same number although the job is described in different ways. So when filling my EOI I found the number for 'Electronics Technician' and then checked all other descriptions for that category number, choosing relevant descriptions for my past employment periods.
I'd suggets you take a close look at the various categories and do the same.
It is possible to edit your EOI (even after submission) so the best bet is to give it a go and keep on chipping away at it. I was happy with getting 100 points, but when I fine-tuned my EOI to the POl list (in a totally honest way) my points score jumped to 125.
Hope that helps,
John.
PS I don't think you need an immigration agent, just patience and a bit of common sense (which luckily my wife provides !)

Thanks for the Info John

I am going to start in ernest now. This website is helpful but addictive. I think we get 125 points if Andy gets a job (as looking outside Aukland).

Will start plodding away at it from Tomorrow.
