Hi all.Off to London next week to hand in ITA..yoo hoo!:raebanana
We have booked one night accommodation. We guess it will be a good chance to show our sons the sights before we leave. We have tickets for the open top bus and river trip. Can anyone else suggest any tips or "must sees"?
Also how much is the London Eye, do you have to book and is it worth it?

London eye is good but it depends on the weather. you do not need to book but you may have a queue. I think we had to wait about 30 mins last time we went which is not bad.

My boys enjoyed going on the docklands light railway, you can sit in the front seat as if you are a driver and get a good view.

We are going down on friday to pick up our passports and blue stickers and are thinking of doing the boat trip down to the flood barrier.

I always take our guests to the Tower. Don't necessarily have to go in, but it is really nice to go and have a look at Tower Bridge.

I like the London Eye, and the last couple of times we've walked back from there along the river up to the Tate Modern and the Old Globe Theatre (don't usually go in, though) and then across the Millenium Bridge towards St Paul's. Depending on the weather, that is quite a sight.

The kids always like Covent Garden for the performances, some of them are really good. One of my boys got 'picked' (well, actually, his friend volunteered him) once, and was part of the show of two performers. It was really great fun :)

I usually try to do the free things with the kids, that way, if they don't like it, at least I haven't wasted a fortune :)

Sigh. Can you tell I like it here and want to stay?

if you fancy seeing the sights you could take a tour bus. However much more fun is the London Duck tours - you will have to book. Its goes from the london eye and does the tour thing but then runs down straight into the river. SPlashhh... oh the "bus" is an amphibious second world war landing craft.

also the museums are free. Natural history is good but the Dinosaurs can be very busy this time of the year. Science museum can be fun, the basement for young children.

How old are your children?

Renew. That bus sounds great. We have already booked tickets for open top bus "original tour", courtesy of cashing in our Tesco clubcard vouchers. Thanks again all

we went last October to show the kids London for the last time (hoping they'd then never say when older in NZ that they need to do an OE to see the sights!)

- we did the science & natural history museums which are fab but very big, busy and time consuming unless you literally just to one tiny section
- we took a river boat trip - they loved that
- london eye is very dear but very good and a bit of a one off
- harrods & hamleys (the food dept in harrods as they'll never see anything like it again!)
- a show if you can - we couldn't get in any of the popular ones but went to see Footloose and we all loved it - half of its the noise, smell and atmosphere
- tate art gallery on the big slides
- rainforest cafe (bit costly)

just thought... how long did you say you were going for ??:o
have a nice trip :D

Definately the 'Bloody Tower' and the Crown Jewels. The beefeaters are really excellent story tellers and kept our kids enthralled with all the gory bits of our history.

Its at the county hall next to the aquarium. I have taken my nephew who is 6 and star wars obsessed. He hid from Darth Vader during the jedi academy. He did get a bit bored and did not want to que to get videod with a light sabre. Oddly the gift shop is outside on the street in a van...
