Does anybody have any recommendations on cheap and clean places to stay in the Bay of Plenty region?

Also on getting cheap flights from the UK and on reliable car rental companies.

Its for when we come out (without our young son) to look at the area, for jobhunting etc. so keeping things to a minimum cost is our main concern.

Thanks
Adele

Adele,
When we were in Tauranga back in June, we stayed at the Avenue 11 Hotel (http://www.avenue11.co.nz/) - it was extremely neat, quiet and friendly. The owner is a British expat and was a wonderful help with places to eat and see. There is a good kitchen (with fridge as I recall) and she may be willing to negotiate rates for a longer stay.

Hi Adele

We have stayed a few times at the Tauranga Motel too and that is fine (also with kitchen and laundry you can use). At Mount Maunganui there is a caravan park where some people do rent out statics if you want to go cheaper. We also used a 'rent a wreck' type of car hire place in the Mount and rented an old but reliable banger for less than $20 a day.

Thanks both for your responses.:D

Do you have the contact details or company name of the rent a wreck place?

Thanks again.

Hi Adele

I can't remember who they are but have emailed my son in Tauranga to see if he has the details. I'll let you know if he has!

Here is a link to the car rental but prices gone up quite a bit since we used them. I think they are still pretty good value though. We went to Sydney for 4 days while we had the car and they allowed us to leave it at the airport for 4 days at no charge (in fact they picked it up, had it serviced and returned it to the same spot during the time we were away!)
