we are in the process of sending off his quals to be accessed.
We are looking for a job offer that will hopefully help, is it worth going

also thinking of going to this as I've got the week off work that week - not sure if it'd be worth it though

Went to the one in London in March and wasn't really worth it for us, didn't learn much that we didn't already know and didn't get any where on the job front.
Have heard that the October one is better but wont be here to check it out.

We've been to 2. Oct 06 - well worth going to, came away with a lot of info. even though no-one wanted to know re. jobs 'cause we were not in the process of emmigrating at that point and so couldn't give a landing time. Most employers seem to want you on NZ soil before they'll even consider you.
March 07 - pants, waste of time. For us anyway. Others thought it was ok. I found out later than the march expo is a recent addition and most of the NZ companies still only go to the Oct expo.

We’ve been to a couple of the October London Expos, we found them very good. I think in terms of potential employers attending looking for a joiner you will probable draw a blank. (but I could be wrong) However many regions of NZ have stands staffed by ‘their locals’ (mainly council bods I think) and they may be able to give you local contacts in their region.
If you haven’t been to one I defiantly think its worth doing.

Is it worth going if you're looking for teaching jobs?

This correlates with my experience. I went to the October 06 one and was quite impressed, several potential (IT) employers to talk to. The March 07 one was awful, only a few agencies and no real employers. If I'd only experienced that one I don't think we'd have proceeded with our application and we wouldn't be here now!
Cheers,
Martin

Lockstock, have you seen that Oasis are going to be in Birmingham on 1st and 2nd Sept for info about teaching jobs? I'm trying to find out a bit more and if I do will post it. Are you primary or secondary?

Yes it is possible to get a job offer through the October Expos.
I would say alot depends on what kind of job you are looking for, how firm your plans to relocate to NZ, etc.

Alakazam! Just resurrected this thread from the dead
If anyone's interested in going to the London Expo on 12-14 October, here is the (quite long) list of employers and jobs that they're looking for:
http://www.expo-newzealand.com/jobs_at_expo.aspx
It will be quite busy so turn up early or late to beat the queues.

Is it worth going to the Machester Expo? I'm off work that week and isn't as far to go...

Carey, I know Liam & Noel Gallagher think they're the bees knees, but can they honestly help Lockstock to get a job?!
General question - Is the Manchester expo different to the London one? I kind of thought it would be the same info?

Only just picked up on this thread again - Carey sorry I didn't get back to you in August - I was on my way to NZ for the reccie and must have missed it, hence not getting bakc to you about Oasis. Not helping, Andy and Carol!!! Noel was a perfect gentleman. Liam was out.
We're going to the Manchester (20th) becuase of time retraints - the container comes on the 29th and stress levels are way too high as it is without involving a visit to London (think I have a London phobia actually)
We're pretty much aware of what the immigration process involves but we want to talk to people and help my daughter get her CV into circulation ready for when she qualifies in March (midwife).
I want to speak to someone at TeachNZ. Not sure why really.
(Carey, I'm secondary special needs with the occsional sortie into the primary secotr in an advisory capacity.)

Well it is much better to be able to see the recruiters taht will be there. I remember that i had to virtually beat the list out of them last year. "not something that we normally do..." Still not sure it is worth me going as the only ones listing science are Move to Wellington who I am already registered with. Ho Hum...
