Ok, as some of you may have read we're having a crisis over our decision to move to NZ. My hubbie has been given the opportunity of a good job here in the UK earning a not inconsiderable sum of money which has been promised to increase. There was a moment [with 4 days left in his previous job] when they called and said that erm sorry the job is now a 4hr drive away from your home....... jings, brill!! It may move closer to our home but we have to wait and see.

However, we now can't decide........ financial security here in the UK [it is a good salary] and possible job security but relocation to an area I don't want to live or move to NZ with less money and the stresses of an international move.

I've been doing pro and con lists until I'm proconned out. I keep telling myself we need to wait and see what happens we've got time to make the decision [our ITA isn't due in until the beginning of October]. But I'm fed up living in uncertainty........... SIGH. there is no easy answer I just want it all sorted out.

Any suggestions?

I know I should stop worrying about what could wrong in NZ and concentrate on what could be positive.... it's so subjective. One of our pros was job security and more time to spend together...

NZ will be there. If you get your PR, you could still go before it expires (even if you just go to validate it, and then actually move 2 years later). If you take the job, it does not mean that you have to stay in the UK forever. But you may find that your are quite happy with the extra income and find that staying is what you want to do.

We had a very similar situation. A good job here, we bought a new house, and tried very hard to want to stay. But for me, I knew that it was the wrong decision- making that choice to buy a new house in America was what really told me that I needed 100% to go to NZ. I describe it this way- sometimes you have to make the wrong choice to know for sure what the right choice is.

Very sage tigerlily! :)

Sticky one Myrkk, but you have to think of it as a life choice, NZ isn't for everyone, but do you stick to the familiar, financial security, but not where you want to live, or move to the other end of the earth, and who knows what? It is a very traumatic experience and you do leave behind your family and friends. Some people can handle it, others can't.

If you are financially secure you could surely visit at your whim... not the same thing, but it is an option. Maybe buy a section down here for the future?
And let's face it, job security isn't always guaranteed, so ... I'd better stop waffling now because I have a stinking cold and not thinking so clearly.

I don't know what, but go with your head, that's all I can think of now.

Good luck

Very good advice from both of you.

I just keep thinking what we could be missing out on if we don't go and then tell myself that the grass isn't always greener then............ you get the drift:o

I promised myself I wasn't going to agonise over this and just take each day as it comes and trust that the right path will show itself. I'm off work with a stinking cold too StevieD so I think I just had too much time to think about it yesterday......... today I'm going to sleep all day :nice1

Hope you get better soon StevieD, having the cold sucks.

I'm with Tigerlily on this. Take the job, maybe validate your PR on a NZ holiday/reccie, which you can pay for with the extra income from the new job.

Its difficult because there is rarely a right or wrong answer, normally just degrees of how happy something can make you.

But it seems much better that the UK turns out to be the 'wrong choice' as it will confirm in your minds that NZ is for you, whereas, if emigrating is the 'wrong choice' there will be a lot of expense and heartache that goes with undoing it.

And if the UK job is the right choice, then you can enjoy lots of NZ holidays!

Cheers

Tia

PS Hold on I might just disagree with myself here, one reason to maybe not go with the UK job is if you are completely doing it out of fear of the unknown, then there is a good chance that deep down you will always regret it. Probably not helping much but as you said - no easy answer. :o

What would the successful, happy person you want to be, do?
