Hi everyone!

We've been looking at this forum for the last month & are v impressed with how helpful you all are & have learnt a lot!!

We are hoping to make the move as soon as possible - our EOI is filled out & just waiting for a passport number now

Our family consists of Sue : IT analyst programmer , Rob : Telecommunications Engineer & Alex (18) dead keen to come & Nic(14) dead keen to stay .

Any encouragement for Nic, genuine or otherwise much appreciated!

no doubt we'll be asking many questions in the weeks to come!

Hi all, and welcome aboard.
Have you been to NZ before, or are you flying blind, so to speak.

Hi Rob And Sue,
Welcome to the forum.
I am afraid I am not much good at giving 14 year olds advice on moving to New Zealand but there are many others on here with teenagers who can give some help.
Kind regards

Dave and Caroline

Kia Ora - Welcome - only advice is to discuss everything fully. Depending on where you live and what sort of "entertainment" you have at you/your kids disposal, and depending on where you want to live can make or break the "sellability" of NZ.

Yes, it is beautiful and there are fantastic opportunities for doing all the outdoors stuff you see advertised and in the glossies, but if you living near the sticks (which is what a huge part of NZ is) then youngsters can easily become bored if they're not focussed.

It is dependant on what sort of person you are. Lots love it, some don't, it isn't for everyone, but all I can go on is my own experience. My eldest is 12 soon, and he loves it. He has throwin himself headlong into everything, joined the scouts, plays basketball in his school and does a load of other stuff.

Kim39 (forumite) introduced us to bodyboarding when we first got here, great fun, and we can't wait for the spring so as we can get going. His daughter (also called Nic!!) settled in fine so maybe he will give you advice if he sees this thread.

Good luck in it all. It is not easy by a long shot, but take each and every step and realise that it is one less. Use the forum because it is a huge source of information and a sounding board too.

Steve
