if we buy duty free goods in Dubai and Sydney do we have to declare them and pay duty on entry to NZ as we are new residents????

No, provided you stay within NZ Customs' limits on duty-free. (The limits are different for residents and nonresidents.)

Well, I didn't know that !!!

We're off to Melbourne for a holiday in a couple of weeks - does this mean I can bring more back than the usual 1or2 litres of spirits per person??

Don't suppose you have the limits at hand do you Barry?

:cheers

It's all at customs.govt.nz

The tourist vs. resident matter applies to personal furnishings; tourists have more hoops to jump through. Same booze limits for everyone, but those go up next month!

WE've got 3 hours in Dubai which I'm assured by Mrs Clare is long enough to hit the airport shops eek :wah but only 1.50 hours at Syndey, is this just a re-fuel so not allowed off plane?.

See you guys very soon :raebanana

Good luck!! unless been change in last 10months, the changeover of one plane to another plane took us just over 1 hour in duabi!! Because they drop you off at landing areas, then you have to board the very slow bus to terminal, then you have to go through customs before you are in duty free areas....3hours is sound fine to me especially you got no kids on tow :nice1

For syndey, you will be expect to leave the plane with everything inc your hand luggages, go throught transfer's custom for bags check before back to boarding gate to wait to board same plane again!! The plane will be unloading, reloading, refuelling and cleaning up before take off....you can't stay in the plane during this..however it it nice to have walk around :nice1

when are you arriving? look forward to meet you soon :cheers

OMG, sooner than I expect!! :raebanana

Well chch's custom was fantastic to us when we arrived because we had very bad & rough flights, so we were exhausted with two kids fast asleep on our arms, so team of customs saw us as we coming out of plane last ones and they in the end helped us carrying bags from plane, through customs (even jump all the queues!!), collected our baggages for us and through MAF asap before we arrive outside of airport in 20mins!!!! We were in fact talked about it last night as still can't our head around on how helpful they were :nice1

We had similar experience in Auckland....we had pushchair loaded with bags, and two trolleys so full, things kept falling off the top. We were just wondering if our 4 year old could possibly manage to push the pushchair as we had trolley and child each already, when along comes a nice person with walkie talkie, gets someone to help us all the way through customs, the lot, stayed with us until OH boss met us outside. Never had customer service anything like it in UK!
