I hope someone could give me some advise - as we so unsure what route to take regarding my 18 yr old who will be going to Uni in 2008. We have applied for our PR - but as we all know that takes alot of time and patience - should we apply for student visa and apply as International student or be patient for a while longer and hope that all our papers are finalized before then to get him to start at beginning of the year?
Hope someone can give us their point of view

If the choice was mine, I'd consider the cost of international fees and wait until PR is confirmed. You may be able to talk to the university of choice and see if they'll accept him without international fees, pending PR - but they're probably going to want the money.

Perhaps if he didn't get PR in time for a Feb university start, he could consider a gap year to get to know NZ and earn some cash before heading off to study?

One of our 2 is starting in Feb 08 but the other one is not starting till July 08. He was given the choice of a Feb start or July start. This is with Auckland University of Technology. Maybe other unis are the same but its best to check.

Thanks for all the advise - so lucky to have all my queries answered with different ideas - sounds like a good idea to start then in July as doubt very much whether our PR will be finalised.

Will have to get to NZ as OH had offer of position at beginning of the year and not too sure how long they will wait for us.
