Hello everyone!
Myself and my wife have just recently started looking into moving to NZ and we're looking for general pointers. We're looking for a change in scenery and a new life away from the American state of mind (no offense intended to any Americans). Right now I'm trying to gather information to create a smooth transition to Christchurch or Auckland.

A little background on us... I am an entrepreneur and IT professional by trade. I have been working in IT since I owned my own company at fifteen years of age. I have been Cisco trained as well as traditional college (which I'm finishing my degree shortly). My wife is an architectural draftsman specializing in pre-cast concrete structures but I do not believe she's trying to stay in this industry. I know there's no shortage of IT jobs as I've been looking around the NZ Herald. I am more worried about continuing my education as I'd like to keep going until I get my masters (University of Auckland?).

Any help in the process of finding employment and education would be appreciated! :raebanana

Sorry, can't really help you on the specifics, but just wanted to say hi and welcome to the forum !

You've come to the right place, both for answers and support. There's a lot of information to be found on this forum through the search function and I'm sure someone will be around shortly who can help with your questions...

Good luck with the process !

Welcome to the forum! While I don't know the specifics of all the colleges in New Zealand I've heard that different ones are strong in different things.

Massey (for instance) is strong in the natural sciences.

I can't do much better than supply you with a list of Universities in NZ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_universities_in_New_Zealand) (thank you wikipedia).

good luck!

Thanks a bunch for the welcomes and information.

We're doing everything we can to study the New Zealand culture and history right now. I think the move will be a nice change of scenery and hopefully a refreshing change in culture and such.

Anyone that has emigrated from the U.S.A. have any comments on the move?

Well, I'm glad we made it!

I think you'll find quite a few stories of moves from the USA on this forum. It's worth your time to dig through the forum topics. There are some people here who moved back, for a wide variety of reasons; I especially suggest that you read their stories.
