Well the good news is that Emile was offered a job last night in Auckland :clap
So that hasn't taken long at all - just over a month in fact. Actually he had interviewed for 3 jobs and was offered every one, lucky guy! It seems that the process of getting the work visa etc will take us 6-8 weeks if all goes well. We were told that once we arrive (probably 19th November) we can apply for PR. At this stage we will just leave it open and see how we settle in Auckland. We were really hoping for Wellington, but I guess that Auckland could be just as fun!

So now it's a mad rush to get the house sold, I have to give 3 months notice and have to find myself a job now, and make all sorts of difficult decisions like whether we take our furniture with us or start fresh...how exciting, and scary :)

Congratulations :raebanana :raebanana, brilliant news, and so quickly too, you must be chuffed ! Enjoy it and good luck with preparing for the move. Exciting time indeed, but you'll be here before you know it !

Initially we were reluctant to be based in Auckland as well, but it's very widespread indeed. We now live on the Hibiscus Coast (approximately 45 minutes drive from CBD) and we absolutely love it !

Congratulations on the job for OH :clap

I am working the last few weeks of my 3 month notice period... it feels like a long time when you hand in your resignation but you will have so much to do outside of work before you leave the time will race by:yes

Re finding a job for you,....we decided that once one of us had got a job to go to (Helen) the other would not take a job until we arrived (me:raebanana ) so that I could find a rental, set up bills, buy a car, etc... this may not be practical for your situation but just a thought to maybe make things easier on your arrival?...

Good luck!

Phil

Congrats to you both - I also had to give three months' notice and it's very much dragging.

As it was, because of a couple of projects that I wanted to complete, I gave 14 weeks' notice and I'm still only halfway to leaving day.

As I recall from your intro a couple months ago, one of you is an MD, perhaps Emile. If you get settled in Aukland and still feel your home is in the Wellington area, it shouldn't be at all difficult to find work in medicine if you keep a watch on openings. And you're right, Aukland could be fun with its variety in food and arts cultures.

Well done for getting a job :)

I've got my last working day here this Friday, and find it quite scary since I have nothing lined up afterwards. We'll get to Auckland in December, so I really can only start looking then.

Anyway, good luck with all the decisions (take stuff, leave stuff, etc) and the job hunt for you.
