Hi there

Is there anyone on this forum who just took a chance and arrived in NZ without PR, found a job, got a permit and is now settled and happy? Please, I would very much like to hear from you!

Thanks

Tracy

Yep, that was us nearly 2 years ago. We simply sold up in uk and jumped on a plane, with no PR/job offer/accomodation etc etc.
We are settled in nicely here now, although still on temp. work permits.

Hi, not strictly the same but. We will have no jobs and no where to live. Bringing a dog as well. Im a kiwi and my wife has PR. I do have a worry though s we plan to toyr and work for 12 months before we settle down, if we do!!! What do we do with the dog ?? Not usre it will be easy, but we will find work and places to stay.

We came with no PR, no job and above all no money as our house sale fell through whilst we were on the plane. Its still not sold, rented it out eventually. We have jobs, car(with 12 months loan), bought a house after we got PR (took 10 months to get PR).

Just gone past the one year mark here in Welly.

Anything is possible if you want it enough. We got over financial problem by having small kiwi credit card until Oh got paid. We will probably be staight financial in a couple of months.

Plus we are over 45 so not so easy to get jobs, but OH is in IT but way behind with his skills.

Feel free to PM is you want a more personal view of things

Don't mean to bring this back from the dead - but angelonthemove, it would be really helpful if you could email mwood at imperialweb dot co dot uk. I'm particular interested in how you booked tickets etc. As we've just had enough in the UK now and just want to get to NZ.

Thanks

Mike

In a way i think this is what i intend to do within 2 years. I am 42 just now (43 at xmas)

Come over for 6 months initialy, look for job, get visa/permit then renew every 2 years(?) as HGV truck driver is only on ISST and if i do get a job, even with an accredited company, i dont think that they will pay $50k a year for 40 hours a week.

All depending if i like what i see when i visit in feb/march

Yep, that's what we did - came on visitors visas, found jobs, got work visa then completed our ITA... still here 3 yrs later... citizenship being applied for this month!

We are in the process of doing the same sort off thing. Sold up in the UK, came over on a WHV (4 weeks ago), bought house, will now look for jobs, then apply for PR!!

Are your jobs on skilled list? Neither OH or myself is 'skilled' as per NZ list - I am Office Management (studying Early Childhood Development) and OH is HR.

Is it difficult to get a work permit? What about the salary requirement? NZ$50 000.00 seems alot for a starting salary... And how does the employer prove that there are no suitable NZers available?

Questions, questions, questions! I am driving myself insane! Keep telling myself to calm down and that everything will be fine, but it's easier said than done. My best friends for over 10 years left SA for NZ on Wednesday and now I really do feel alone... There is no-one here left to talk to. OH is just soooo chilled and relaxed about the whole thing, I wonder if he's secretly taking Prozac... HAHAHA! My worst fear is that we'll get offered jobs and immigration declines the work permits!

Hi

We had a job here, and PR, but had never been to NZ before - so we took our chance that way. Love it here though,

Andrea

We're still waiting for PR but we're going anyway in January. It's a calculated risk but it seems to have worked out ok for others. We're taking 2 dogs and a 20' container. Scared witless and the wrong side of 50 but you only get on shot in this life - and we're going for it. It doesn't make the leaving any the easier and the uncertainty does nothing fot the blood pressure mind you !!

i am doing things by faith, as we already have a place to stay and we are getting lots of help from people in nz that have citizenship (note.. citizenship)
