Hello Fellow and Prospective Kiwis,

I have been searching for a job position as an Analytical or Research Chemist in NZ. I have come across only one position so far. I was wondering if anyone know of more sites for finding chemist positions in NZ.

I have a Bachelors's degree in Chemistry and a total of 6 years of experience, mostly industrial experience which was acquired in US. I have checked that the Analytical Chemist postion is listed on the Immediate Skill Shortage list which serves as a source of hope that I might find a position in NZ.

I currently do not have any work permit or work visa and would like to know what would be a prudent approach towards acquiring a job. Should I travel to NZ as a visitor and apply locally or apply through agencies?

I have not submitted any CVs owing the fact that I don't have any work visa or permit and the employers would inquire about the work permit status.

Any thoughts???

All input is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

So far I've put 'Sponsorship Needed' under eligibility to work on the CV's I've submitted. I don't think I'll get much interest until I'm there but it can't hurt to try.
I've been poking about on http://www.seek.co.nz as they seem to have more biological and chemical science-type jobs (I have a degree in Molecular Bio). Most sites seem to be more IT oriented, so I know what you are talking about in regards to relevant jobs not seeming to be available.

I haven't found any agencies yet, so I'll be watching this with interest :D

It is probably a case of identifying the potential employers in NZ and sending them your CV proactively. What field are you in?

There is not alot of chemical industry in NZ, and scientific research in that area has not been a priority for our present govt.

Good luck.
