We will hopefully be in NZ by early next year where our son plans to attend Uni - can anyone tell me whether the Engineering Degrees at Auckland Uni better than Waikato Uni or other way round. I had heard that Auckland Uni do a general Engineering degree in first year and then the student can then decide in which line to follow - does anyone know whether thats the same at Waikato. I have tried contacting them without getting any reply.

We will have to make a choice pretty soon whether or not we have our PR and dont seem to be getting the correct answers from the Uni and am starting to panic about all of this.

Hope someone might be able to give me some ideas

Thanks again
Jayne

I don't know about Auckland as were in Southland, but in the UK my son did a Basic General Engineering course at College, and this featured heavily on health & safety in the work place, general basic Engineering Knowledge etc.
He then went on to do a Heavy Fabrication course and the Basic Engineering course was taken into account.

My youngest is at SIT which is a Polytec down here in Invercargill and he is doing a Pre- Trade course in Electrical Engineering
http://www.sit.ac.nz/pages/programmes/programme.php?code=ST4928

he can then continue to do a more specialised field if he wishes.
So I guess if you have a look at the Uni websites you should find what you are looking for - and if not send them an email as I contacted Otago Uni for more information for Jason and they were very helpful

good luck

Kat
