Ok, so we think we've found a house we would like to make an offer on and I'm assuming we'd need to do so via a solicitor - is this correct? If so can anyone recommend a solicitor based in the East Coast Bays area of Auckland?

Also, any recommendations of who to go to to get a building inspection done? Several estate agents say they know people but I'm a bit of a 'never trust an estate agent' kinda gal so would prefer a more 'neutral' recommendation.

Thanks in advance everyone,
Anneliese

Hi Annelise. We have 2 Solicitors who are both extremely good.We started off with one and then got introduced to the other so we have decided to use both for different things as they are so good we didn't want to lose either.
One is Chris Western who is based in Takapuna which is right in the North Shore where all the clothes shops are. His website is
http://www.simpsonwestern.co.nz/SW.html
The other one is Anna Furness who works for Fortune Manning and is an expert on property sales/purchasing. She is based in Auckland City but we do everything by email or phone so where she is is not much of a problem.

As regards a Good building survey get in touch with the Hodges on this forum . Tony will be able to point you in the right direction on that score

Hope this helps

We used Geoff Baxter at McVeigh Fleming in the CBD. Very happy with him and he was highly recommended by friends of mine (also an attorney) who have used him a lot.

We used Garry Davidson at McVeagh Fleming. They are now in Albany, 5-7 Corinthan Place.
We used him for all our property buys. Very helpfull.

I highly recommend
Donnell and Associates
www.dalaw.co.nz
They are based in Glenfield on the North Shore and publish nearly all of their prices on their site.
We have now used them 3 times for property and other matters and exemplary.
Fees are really good in my opinion.
Communication great also.
We bought our first property through them from UK.
We have used 2 lawyers there and both very good

Hi Anneliese,

Looks like you have plenty of recommendations to choose from for solicitors but just picking up on what you said in your original post, although it might be advisable to consult your lawyer before making an offer re conditions, etc, you don't make the offer via the solicitor but direct through the real estate agent, or if a private sale, direct to the vendor. If you're not local they should be able to fax the sale and purchase agreement to you to sign.

Did you find a building inspector? If not let me know and I can suggest a couple.

Regards,
Garth
