I assume that you want to send KD7 a private message?
The rules have changed on the forum such that you now need to have made at least 5 posts (not in the lounge) before this feature is enabled.

Hi Oakey, welcome to the forum!! KD17 are over in UK visiting at the moment I think.
What sort of telecomms background do you have? There are lots of different options, but let me know a few details and I'll see if I can shed some more light on things for you.
Good luck

Guys, word of warning, don't expect the salary levels you get in UK!! There are plenty of job advertised on itseek.co.nz and you can get them emailed to you daily or weekly whatever your choice.
Lots of work for NP and telecomms work in general if you in the major centres. Out in the sticks it is a bit more difficult to find, but it is out there.
Any companies you need to know about let me know and I'll see what I can dig up for you.

Just seen this thread so thought I would resurrect rather than start another one. Can anyone please confirm if telecommunications is part of the NZIS definition of ICT and that therefore it falls into the identified future growth area category?
Thanks for helping with yet another daft question!

Not a daft question at all, it's one I would also like to know the answer to, although I believe it's only relevent if you have a job offer to claim the points.

Well it would also give you points for work experience according to the online indicator. According to all definitions I can find ICT does include telecommunications but you can never tell!

Not sure if this going to be of any help but we got PR because of OH job as PM in telecommunications, he also managed to get a job before we left the UK from the London Expo. I would get along to the next NZ Expo in London as Telecom NZ are there, with your CV on one of those stick thingies you put in the side of your computer (can't remember the name & said I may not be much help :) )
Good luck anyway

Lindsey, how did you guys get out there was it a work permit, WTR or PR? If you don't mind saying, was that with Telecom NZ?
Thanks for your help.

Hi Alan
We got PR, quickly aswell because of job start date. I'm sure my OH could help more than I so feel free to PM me & I will see if he knows a bit more if you have any q's to ask, we kind of filled out everything together so I know a bit but when it comes to his job I would have to ask him or look at his CV

I wouldn't mind working for Telecom, but when I emailed them last year they said they were no looking for engineers, or anyone who did not currently have a permit to work in NZ. I might give them another look though as it would be right up my street.

We found that too as when we knew we wanted to go to NZ I didn't think we could get through as PR so thought we woud go WTR route & as the are accredited employers the would fit the bill, sent CV & stuff online but nothing. Went to the Expo & they almost bit my OH hands off to give him a job. They did give us everything we needed to go through the WTR route but we seemed to have enough points to go PR so we did.
The Expo I think is a must, you get to see them face to face & find out for sure if they need you.
Good Luck

Telecommunication Engineer/Technician is On the Immediate Skills Shortage List at this time, so you may get in without an offer of employment!

Really? Has it just been updated? Those points would take me to 140 I think.
:exit Off to alter my EOI.
Edit: How would I refplect this on my EOI? I can't see a place to slip it in so to speak.

Find it on http://www.immigration.govt.nz/NR/rdonlyres/89185A40-27D3-41F4-84BE-30129920411D/0/ISSL.pdf however I am not sure if this list gives any more points.
tomo1340
1st February 2008, 09:20 AM
Yes, found. I don't think it would count for extra points. The OH is reluctant to submit EOI without 140 points so I may have to hang on for a job offer.

Yup, worked for me, I got in without job offer a few years ago.....
