Hi,

I was wondering if anyone was living in Tauranga or just knew whether there is much in the way of Telecoms jobs here. Are there any of the large companies based here? Telecom/Telstra etc...I understand its a growing city...correct me if I'm wrong please!! Also if anyone knew if there was a demand in Hawkes Bay?

Thanks

Hi Chazndave

Don't know about Telecoms jobs (sorry) but Tauranga is a large and fast growing city. My son lives there and I have visited a few times and it is where we are headed. In the last 4 years it has grown quite amazingly.

Good luck in your search!

Moved to Tauranga from manchester and the family joined me this week. The place is one of the fastest growing areas in NZ 45 mins to an hour from Rotorua , 1 hr from Hamilton and 2 1/2 hrs from Auckland. I travelled before settling here and it wins hands down , im currently living in MT maunganui.

My daughters (16 and 15) and I are moving to Tauranga in mid December. I have a job offer there. We are really looking forward to getting there and getting settled. Looking in the Otumoetai area but haven't been very successful in finding a place yet.

I grew up in Tauranga and spent a lot of my childhood on a farm up Pyes Pa Road.

My wife and I are returnng to NZ end of next year. I love the Pyes Pa area.

FYI - The reason it is called Pyes Pa? Its becuase the local fort during the Maori wars was controlled by an officer called Pye. During one of the particularly dangerous times he used to call all the settlers in the area into the fort for safety until reinforcements would arrive. So you had a fort jam packed with woman and children .. washing hanging over the ramparts etc etc. So when the relief coumn turned up.. they said it looked like a Maori Pa (fortress community) not a British stronghold, so they nicknamed it Pyes Pa.... and the name has stuck.

These guys are Otumoetai specialists... based in Cherrywood. Do rentals and sales. (no I dont work for them or have any afilliation with them! ... but we bought our house in Pillans Point from them and they were very good)

Tay... how interesting!

We are only here in Pyes Pa temporarily until we have built on our section. But it is very handy for our daughter's school at Aquinas.

We will not be moving very far away though...Oropi Downs if you know it?

We're hoping to move to the Tauranga area next year, we will need somewhere to stay for a couple of weeks before we embark on a rental property. We are thinking about booking into one of the holiday parks as we are arriving without jobs so need to work to a budget. Has anyone stayed in one? Hopefully we will be arriving around May time so not sure how warm the cabins or chalets will be?
If anyone can reccommend any cheap motels or the like, let me know, not bothered about lots of facilities, just to be clean and warm!!!
Thanks

Have some friends living in Oropi, but my memries of the place are form when the entire place was farmland.. right up to the Greerton shops...

My niece and nephew both go to Aqunas, they arent Catholic though, so were lucky to get in.

Still mostly farmland Tay around Oropi - but like everywhere else, the farmers are slowly releasing hectares to willing buyers looking for a more rural lifestyle that's not too far off the beaten track. Absolutley stunning views of the 'Kamais' though and incredible sunsets!
