Hello All,

Has anyone got an ITA on 130 points without a job offer or experience in an absolute skills shortage area? My husband and I both fit the NZ criteria of being in skilled employment and have a lot of experience to bring to the country but neither of our employment areas are an ‘absolute shortage’. Looking at the selection made this week all of those selected between 100 and 135 points were ‘absolute shortage’. Is there any point us putting our EOI in at the moment with 130 points or should we try to get a job offer first?

Any views or helpful advice will be greatfully received:nice1 .

Cheers

We submitted with 130 points and no job offer. Paul is an Electrician. Not sure if that's "absolute shortage". Seems ages ago now.

We originally submitted at 135 (ish) points and no job offer. We were quite quickly fished from the pool, however they knocked us back to 115 points as they wouldn't credit OH points for degree as it wasn't the right degree for the skills. So we were just waiting in the pool at that stage. To clarify we applied on the Skilled Migrant route with OHs skills on the absolute skills shortage list.

OH then went to NZ for a week for interviews which led to an offer which he accepted. We informed the original case officer who had fished us from the pool so she could make the relevant changes to our points status.. the rest (as they say) is history!

As soon as possible I would think. :)
You can edit your EOI should a job offer come up.

Currently in shock. Last night went through the EOI questions one last time before submission and realised I had wrongly answered one (although my current emplyment isn't in an absolute skills shortage area, my degree is and I had put 'no'). By re-doing that question it appears to have pushed me to 140 points. If my understanding of the rules is correct that means we will automatically get pulled out for an ITA regardless of whether we actually work currently in a skills shortage area. I just hoped I have answered the form to their satisfaction and don't take points away - must have been heart-stopping for you Annaliese to ger picked out and then put back again.

The 140 points puts a whole new slant on things and makes it suddenly very scary. We are travelling out on November 24 and my OH has arranged to take the police recruitment test (he is a police inspector over here). They are not proactively recruiting from abroad at the moment but we are hoping to charm them into changing their minds as I too work for the police service providing specialist media advice.

I am going to have the house valued before we go and possibly even put it on the market. Assuming the trip goes well and we decide for sure it is what we want to do it will be full steam ahead when we get back.

Now all I have to do is break it to my mum - she is going to disown me!!! Any tips to staying alive and avoiding tears?
