I've noticed on the forum that people seem to come from all over the UK
(Apologies to people from other Countries, you are all in my thoughts)
I thought it an interesting idea to see exactly where people are emigrating from. According to a recent survey by the BBC most people leaving The UK were from the North. Lets put that to the test.
Thank you all for participating. Please put where you emigrated from and not where you were born if they are different. For those still in UK, where you are living at the moment.
I have had to condense the areas down as there are only 10 options maximum.

Kindest regards

I had two houses, one in the South East and one in the South West before we emigrated and commuted between them several times a week!

The results of this so far back up what the BBC were saying the other day that the majority of people leaving the UK are from the North of England. Would be interesting to know peoples opinions on why the north is having a mass exodus as opposed other areas. It looks like no one wants to leave Ireland. Perhaps we should start emigrating there?

Natalie - you have no idea how out of it I feel being from the South East!! And we are the most overcrowded corner of the country so it makes sense some of us should leave and make room for the rest!

We legged it from west London although I'm originally from Yorkshire and Anneliese is originally from the Midlands. As a Yorkshireman till my dying day I can understand why the North West is winning this poll - if I was a Lancastrian I'd be leaving the country as soon as possible! :D

I'm originally from Droitwich Spa, near to Worcester or if you don't know where that is near to Birmingham but I am definitely NOT a brummie! :D

Left years ago though and no longer have any family there as they are all in South Wales, haven't visited in years and years!

Couldn't believe it when at the Auckland get-together on Saturday to meet somebody from Halesowen! Cue song... its a small world after all...!

Well, South east is slowly creeping up but the North is winning hands down still. Still no one from Ireland. Is there anyone on this forum From Ireland?

I've seen quite a few posts from people from Ireland but remember, Ireland isn't in the UK so they mightn't be looking at this thread.

Ohhh, well we lived in Scotland but remaining family are in South (Hampshire & West Sussex) so that's where I'm "from" I suppose - I'm one of those mixed up Forces kids who dread the "where are you from" question cos I've lived in so many places!! :D

As a rough guide If you're inside the M25 then you're Greater London. We are in Essex but are classified as Greater London as we are 1 mile inside

Hi,
You are not going mad,the title has been changed to incorporate those from Ireland who we know exist on this forum but it has been suggested the title was stopping them from voting.

What are you classing the Channel Islands as? Not part of UK but closer than Ireland because of Crown Dependancy.

Sam B
4th September 2007, 11:53 PM
Well I'm originally from Nottingham, but we moved to Cornwall 6 years ago. Cornwall is full of people who moved there because they were fed up with living in an ugly bit, and my theory is that quite a few people then go on to emigrate elsewhere, as moving to Cornwall was like the trial run for emigrating...?

We are in inner city Leeds, that also answers why we are leaving!

Had I been able to put Channel Islands I would have done but as I am limited to 10 options I had to omit it. I suppose the best is to include it in South West and mention where you are from on the thread. Thats the best I can offer I'm afraid
