Finally back on line having moved into a rental on Saturday.

So, the story so far.....

Arrived in Christchurch on 15th Aug - bloomin' freezing after having 4 days in Singapore. Dug out the thermals and ski socks and slept in them in a very cold b&b in Kaikoura that night. Visited the seal colony and there were literally hundreds of them - loads of pups, fantastic. Walked up to a waterfall which they apparently visit to play in the pool beneath - didn't see any there but then walking back down again we saw one in the stream making its way back down to the sea. It's so fantastic to think they scramble all the way up there. We stood on a little bridge over a pool and watched until he slid in, he then swam to & fro watching us, watching him, littl'un was in her element so not bad for our first day in NZ!

Drove to our holiday home outside Nelson the following day, discarding thermals as we went and haven't needed them since. It's now t-shirt/sweatshirt weather and littl'un has been gambolling about in the sea in knickers and t-shirt - she's in her element. Spent the last 2 weeks finding a rental, buying a car, looking at schools and sections etc etc, nothing exciting but all necessary. Found a nice house, warm and in a decent area but far too suburban for us so will be looking around again once we're a little bit more settled. Had a couple of lovely days out, one in Golden bay on Ligar beach and yesterday we spent Fathers day walking the first part of the Abel Tasman coastal trail from Marahau to a lovely little beach called Coquilles bay - stunning scenery and native bush. Only managed an hour each way which was about the limit for our 4 yr old but what a taster that was. Will have to do a boat trip to take us further in to allow us to explore more.

OH started work today but has to be in Welly for 2 months so I'm now home alone feeling sorry for myself, friendless etc etc but at least I have the internet again so can catch up with folks back home.

That's all for now - hopefully get to meet some forum folks at some stage but they seem few and far between in Nelson - knew we should have gone to Christchurch!

hope you are not too lonely down there Zorbster. Kim also started work today and I was home alone with the boys. I have an interview with an agency tomorrow so fingers crossed.

Great to hear from you :nice1

Sounds exciting to me - I can't wait to be there doing all those mundane settling in things :D

You've done pretty well to get in a house so quick. let us know what the areas are like once you get chance.

Hope hubbie gets settled in work and you manage the first couple of months whilst he's in Welly. Is he flying up there daily or staying for the full week?

message to Sandra AND John... can we have some piccies please! I'm getting NZ desperate over here and need a top up / reminder to keep me going ;)

Good luck all new settlers

Goodness, you have been busy !

Sounds like you're settling in well enough, but can imagine that being alone so soon is less than fun, to say the least ! Good thing you have many friends on here to 'keep you company' and surely there must be some near to where you are ?!

We're on the Whangaparaoa Peninsula, Hibiscus Coast on NI so suggesting a cuppa isn't really an option I'm afraid ;)...

Good luck settling in and finding new friends !
