Looking through all the immigration stuff, I can't work out what they mean exactly by 'IT Professional'. Are they basically saying everyone who works in IT comes under this, or is it limited to certain jobs?

Have a look on the immigration website, for the list of skill shortage areas. There are breakdown for different types of IT jobs. When filling in EOI, you need to pick the one that most closely matches your job title/description. Sorry, no link, but you will find info with guidance notes for completing EOI.

I think my problem's going to be that I don't have formal qualifications for what I do, though I do have experience. I'm not sure I'll have difficulty finding a job, just getting the points in the first place.

Has anyone done the work to residency programme? I'm thinking that looks our best bet as I've just not got the points.
