My OH is a cop in South Africa and we were wondering how easy (or difficult) it would be to get onto the police training in NZ.

I am a UK cop and move to NZ next Tuesday and start for NZ police a couple of weeks later.

The websites mentioned will give you information regarding recruitment and also have a section for overseas recruits.

My advice would be to contact the recruitment department direct at Wellington police HQ. The email for them is chrissie.straayer@police.govt.nz she is busy and will get back to you given time.

I was recruited as part of an overseas recruitment drive aimed at British police officers, but do know of Americans and other european countries that they have recruited from. They took into account our years service with the UK police and will also recognise previous ranks held, but will all start as constables.

The reason for recruiting from overseas is to help fill posts in Auckland, so most of the officers are stationed in the Auckland and surrounding areas. That said, I am posted to the south of the south island, outside of Dunedin.
