Hi

Does anyone have any thoughts on how to join my sister in Warkworth - she's lived in NZ for about 30 years, and has sponsored us under the Family Quota scheme without success. Then the NZ Government changed the maximum age for applicants down from 60 to 55 suddenly, so now we are at a loss what to do.
Of course, we can visit every year, but we would dearly love to be able to live there permanently.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Hi Chuck Trucks

Unless you have children there I don't have any suggestions, but wanted to say welcome to the forum and good luck!

you can apply for age waivers, i was in ameeting a while ago with immigration offcier and somone there was 65 and was after PR. they had a work permit as they were employed in a hospital, the imigration officer said tehy could go for an age waiver from imigration minister.

not sure if this is an option but it could be worth investigating

It's a shame you can't come in. I think there should be a retirement category. As long as you have enough income and private medical insurance to never have to be a burden on the system here, you should be welcomed.

Good luck.

The only reliable way to retire to NZ is as an investor. If you have $10m NZD investment capital then the upper age limit is 64. If you can scrape $20m NZD together then there is no upper age limit.

This new scheme starts in November.

Alan.

Sounds so easy doesn't it - after all what is the odd $10m to most of us? Its only just a bit more than £3m.

Now - where did I hide that lottery ticket??
