Hi All,
Our PR and visas are in place, now planning the move.We plan to be in New Zealand soon. I have done some research and it seems employers/recruitment consultants would want you to be New Zealand to schedule an interview. Has anyone done a telephonic interview/skype interview with a prospective employer in New Zealand.
Regards

Yes, my husband has been interviewed, usually phone first and then via skype for 3 different jobs- got none of them, but there's hope. I've been told that having a firm arrival date (ie ticket) can help. We'll see! Depends a lot on the industry you're in. If you are a programmer, then recuiters may be knocking at your door. Or anything else in short supply.

Hiya
Yep my OH had two interviews one on the phone with some email correspondence and the other through video conferencing and on-line psychometric testing. Was quite complicated and didn't go down skype mainly due reliability our end but companies set up video conference very quickly. Was very successful for us cos OH got offered both jobs so excellent result but we were quite surprised for the reasons that you have given - we are a risk not being in NZ.
I do agree though it does depend on the industry my OH is in laboratory services and they are on the skills shortage list so very sought after. We have other friends who have made the move who are teachers and again we're appointed through telephone interviews so does happen fairly regularly. The other thing that may have worked in our favour is that OH has to be registered with professional body to work in NZ and we already had invested the time and money doing that so I think it added to employers sense of our commitment to the move. Sorry for waffling and hope this is of some help.:)

We both did telephone interviews and I did a video-conference too. No job offers :( However, it worked out well, as we hadn't sold the house at that stage and couldn't have gone if we did get offers!
Personally, I didn't enjoy the remote interviewing process for several reasons:
time difference meant either being interviewed really early morning or really late at night
can't see the person's face/body language (by phone)
delay on the line makes easy, natural flow of conversation hard and resulting conversation is more stilted and less comfortableHowever, I might have felt differently if I'd had a job offer!
So yes, it can does happen and can and does result in offers,
Good luck!

Oh got job by telephone interview, after he made initial contact at NZ Expo in Earls Court. It was all very informal really....he works in IT too. Big companies here are desparate for staff, so if you have the right experience, you'll have no problems.
