Hi all, I'm new here and was wondering about some things, I hope I dont ask anything too stupid, but here goes.
My family are thinking of moving to New Zealand, which is suppose be an heaven for the outdoor type, of which I can just about claim to be, as I likes the boats and fish, as well as walking, canoeing etc. However, I have not been able to find much out about more indoorsy things, such as videogames, films and comics. A quick search turned up about 3 comic shops in Auckland and nothing anywhere else. I'm not so concerned about Cinemas, as I’ve found a few online. I'm just wondering if there is the same sort of gaming culture to be found in NZ as in the Uk, such as all going round to friends houses for a game of Halo or 20, or playing WoW into the wee small hours with your mates?
If anyone one could enlighten me in this respect I would be most grateful, thanks!

Found the cinemas here generally better than the UK.
There is a similar gaming culture for playing online games e.g. my sons regularly meet sleep over at friends and spend their entire time playing WoW etc. And going on how tired they are when they arrive home would say it definitely goes into the smalll hours.
This is not just the expats but kiwi kids as well.
That said, it's not generally so often (although still too often IMO) as there are a lot more outdoor things that they can do, but rest assured it does still happen.

Honey is that you?... sorry for a moment I though my husband had signed up on the forum. :p
Here on that Kapiti Coast, which is about 1 hour from Welly and not a big city, there's a place called Cyber Jack's Internet Cafe. Mainly online gaming. I went in once when my computer was down and I had to email work - found it packed full of guys talking and playing online. If they have it here, surely the bigger cities do too...
They have EB Games (http://www.ebgames.co.nz/home/home.cfm) here. (More expensive than the US version)
For general film info and cities where they play see this site (http://www.flicks.co.nz).
The comic book store situation gives my OH the most grief. Nothing around here, but at least it isn't only in Auckland. There are comic book stores in several other cities. I only know about these:
Wellington has Graphic in Cuba Mall
Hamilton has Mark One (http://www.mk1.co.nz/pages/welcome.php?g=2)
Hastings has Iconix (http://www.iconix-comics-games.co.nz/xurl/function/pgrplist/grpid/7029/comics.html)
Christchurch has Comics Compulsion (http://www.comicscompulsion.co.nz/comics.php)

Just fyi OH adds that selection is pretty small at Graphic in Welly.
He also says that, like books, comics are a lot more expensive in NZ.
