Having not kept any records of payslips P60's etc.. prior to a year ago  , I'm wondering how I prove my work experience. I have references from my previous employers stating all the usual (is that sufficient) but can I retrieve my P60's/payslips and National Insurance contributions from anywhere? I'm sure I saw somewhere on here before a link to a government website about retrieving data on nat/ins contributions.

Cheers,

Mike.

Hi Mike. I am in a similar position. I phones the NI contributions office in Newcastle (dont know if it is the same for every one) and they sent me a full report on NI contributions from the start of my working life. God it makes me feel old reading it.

I'm confused!!

Are you supposed to include proof of employment with the ITA paperwork? I can't seem to find info on this on the NZIS Web site. What kind of "proof" do they want? Normally we prove employment in the US with a W2 pay stub. However, I certainly haven't kept old pay stubs going back 10 years.

What have other Americans done for proof of employment?

RoadRunner: I understand (please check!) that NZIS accepts any one (or more) of a range of "proofs" of employment - such as a hiring letter.

Cheers,
Matt.

MB,

A hiring letter is not sufficient as it only states that you started work but not for how long.

I was told to get a letter from each of my employers going back 10 years at the most as anything beyond that does not give you any extra points. The letter is suppose to state the following.

Length of service (started when and ended when)
Terms of employment (full time or part time)
Position while in employment
Brief description of work or areas or responsibility

Must be on the letter head of the company giving address, telephone and fax numebrs.

The person signing the letter must be contactable.

My problem was that I was hired by a company UK statutory company, registered in Mauritius but operated out of Singapore and was seconded to Indonesia! True meaning of the word globalisation! I had to find 3 letters to link all these three companies! Was a total nightmare! :eek

For what it is worth, the report sent to me by the nice lady at the data protection office in Newcastle is very comprehensive, giving details of length of service etc.
It goes without saying that if you paid NI contributions for a given period, you must have been with that employer for that same time frame. Therefore, in my view at any rate, this information is probably as good as wage slips etc.

Tim, have you got another number - that goes rings a couple of times then you get a fax line noise afterwards?

There is in fact a perfectly good reason for that..............it is the fax number

Try this one. 0191 2257575

SORRY

Did a search for that number on the internet and it comes up as the SAR's teams fax line - and the no tel no. was not provided. I got through to someone up in Geordie-land and they said that I had to put a request in writing! (Same address as you provided) But obviously it'd be quicker if I can call them. The website also said it could take 40 days to reply (seems to be the standard government timeframes - but then again working for them for a short period I can understand why  !

How long did it take for the paperwork to arrive?

Cheers

Mike.
