Hi folks
Well we have now been in Christchurch a whole two weeks and have survived the jet lag and the flu! Now settling in to slight normality although one bit of me thinks 'gosh can hardly believe we are here' and the other bit thinks 'surely we have been here longer than two weeks - feels like ages'.
Work for me has started and i am doing my induction period at work. Despite having been an 'old hand' in the UK i am finding subtle differences and so have found myself asking the most mundane and obvious just to check i have it right. Some things better / some things !!!.
More excitingly we have purchased a house already (although dont move in til Halloween) despite thinking we would rent for 6 months or so. The thought of moving lock stock and barrel was getting to me so when we saw our ideal house we snapped it up. Am very excited about the move and having our own stuff from the container - will be like Christmas :-).
We are finding our way around ChCh fairly well though only with a map at the moment, after buying a car on the second day here it has given us real freedom to explore - definitely recommend folks to get wheels asap after they arrive.
At the moment we have an ideal spot as we are able to walk up the hills overlooking ChCh and those lovely snow capped alps. The view the other way being toward Lyttleton harbour and beyond to the pacific ocean. We did the road to Akaroa at the weekend - beautiful views and a really quaint little place :yes
We have played a bit of golf and found the courses in great condition although generally they are slightly shorter than UK courses. Very friendly members that make you feel very welcome.
NZ tv we have found a bit indifferent although we did watch Spooks the other evening and the breakfast show with Paul and Pippa is just fab - very funny and
definately not one to miss if your at home at this time (and handy for keeping up with the exchange rate).
Keep you posted Clare (and Ben) x:raebanana
