I'm starting the packing of things that we don't use much but are certainly coming with us. I'm just wondering what kinds of things MAF would like to have a look at so I can group them together for easy viewing :yes

I've read their site and wood comes up a lot. Has anyone found they like to have a look at all wood or just untreated wood? I have a few older wooden jewelry boxes (all painted and stained and well dried out where not) and an antique rocking chair that has recently been re-stained and varnished.

We aren't bringing hardly anything. Our electronics won't work anyway and we simply don't care that much for a lot of the stuff we ended up with. We figure if we can't live without it for 6-10 weeks we probably don't need it that much anyhow.
Lots of books, some home-made quilts and assorted decorations. Our mattress, but not the bed frame... Oh, and one chair. :laugh
We have some sort-of quotes from a few places for 'we pack-they ship' LCL of about 200CuFt.

Another question is what kinds of descriptions does MAF like to see?
I've been making an inventory (I'm itching for things to do, can you tell? :p ) and have been describing things like so:
Decoration-glass and metal fish
Listing what it is and what it is made from basically.

Any ideas on what kinds of things I should confine to the MAF box?

Thanks in advance :)

Hi, Im still in Uk, so Im sure you will get more detailed info form those that have already made the move, but id just check your decorations....the guy that came around to give shipping quote said not to ship any pine cones. ALso, id put together any garden tools/gloves/work tools you may be taking.

I seem to get the impression that if you are organised with list, and have a specific MAF box and everything is clean and as described, they may not go through the rest

Good Luck

Hi Becky,
I'm about where you are, wanting to get things done! Check that you can get a new frame for the size of your matress, I think some sizes differ.

I'm planning to put all the garden tools together, all the foodstuffs together (ground spices, no whole spices like seeds) (oh and I want to take some mexican food!), Christmas decorations (I think they like to check these because of the pine cone thing and because they have been exposed to real trees?).

I'm dreading cleaning all the kids toys that have been in the dirt outside. I think it may be a lost cause on some of them.

When do you leave?

We're not off until March 2008, but we'll be selling the house in the next few months (hopefully?) and are progressively getting rid of the larger things.
Things like quilts and decorations and books are going in boxes to be shoved in another room and the boxes are staying open for the moment.

Maybe the dog toys (no kid toys here) though I was hoping to take those over in luggage since the dogs should be out of quarantine before our stuff arrives.
Not that they will care! :laugh
Unless MAF wants to have a look at the treated wood I can't think we'll actually have much for them to have a look at.

As for the mattress, I think a queen is a queen so no issue there. The smaller sizes are a bit different from what I understand.
It's a special partially inflatable one so I'm quite attached to it.
