Hi,

This has probably already been asked, but I'm new to you guys so here goes.

We were granted a Residence Permit and 2 year RRV in May 2006 (after a very long process!). We were then relocated with work to the States. Our RRV expires May 2008 and we are planning to return to NZ early that year. Does that mean we can re-enter NZ before May 2008 and still have residency? If so, what is the process for renewing the RRV when it expires? How can we show we intend to stay permanently this time (we have kept a bank account there)?

Any and all advice would be most welcome.

Cheers..

you are entitled to return and take up residence up till May 2008. once you have arrived you are entitled to stay for as long as you like.

the problem arises if you want to leave NZ again after May 2008 (on holiday for example), as without a new valid RRV you wont be entitled to return again.

so you will need to apply for a new RRV if you want to leave NZ. for the first year after arriving you will only be able to get 14 day ones - so short holidays only! once you have been in NZ for a year you can get another 2 year RRV. then once you have been here for 2 years you can get an indefinite RRV.
