I am in my final year of a nursing degree and want to emigrate using my qualifications. I was originally planning on doing so after two yrs work experience but.... I dont want to wait that long and want to do it asap :uhoh . My question is whether or not hospitals in south island are employing post-grad nurses. My points score will be acceptable with either 2 yrs experience or a job offer... if I have both my points are mega anyway, but like I said, I'm very eager to emigrate as soon as possible.
Any help would be greatfully recieved especially comments concerning people who know of those that have been employed with no/little experience. cheers Liz :cheers xx xx xx

sorry welshgang, I really don't know.
I've been told that employers and the nz nursing council like you to have had at least 2 years experience, but this may not be the case, I've just had a quick glance at the council website and it doesn't seem to mention any such thing.
Why don't you apply for your nz registration ( assuming you're already a registered nurse ) and have a look at some dhb vacancies. If you see a job you fancy, give them a call for an informal chat.
After all, the dhbs employ both foreign nurses and new grad kiwi nurses, so why not a new grad foreign nurse?
good luck

Cheers for your help k, I was going to register with the NZ nursing council anyway as soon as I'm qualified because then I have the freedom to start looking for work straight away. I had a look at the council website and I think it just says that you need to have a 'fitness for practice' cert from your home council which I will have then I will register. I suppose it just means that I can't be as impatient as I want to be hee hee!! .... slow and steady.... blah blah blah !!
