Hello every one
For the last few months i have been thinking about leaving "great??" britain and making a new start.
Having again worked 60 hours this week just to pay my morgtage, debts and CSA and having £40 left to buy food and petrol, i am more determined to sell up and move to NZ.
I hold an hgv licence (NZ class 5?) but see it is only on the ISSL :(
reading forums and other info it seems that truck drivers are on less money in NZ ($15 to $20 p/hr) so WTR is not possible, as i am divorced. But it seems that i can apply for a job,if succesful get a work visa/permit? and re new it every 2 years?
I would be looking at bringing approx £50K over after selling up and clearing debts up, so renting or buying should be no problem.
But could i sell up, ship my worldy belongings to NZ (reckon on half a 20ft container!), come to NZ for 6 months and look for job? with intention of staying?

Just in case any one asks, i am not running away from my kids re CSA... they say the world is getting smaller and only 24hours away lol

I'm not sure about renewing it every too years - we mentioned doing this when we first came over and were told that NZIS would probably "encourage" you to apply for PR after the two years were up. You may find that with 2 year NZ work experience under your belt you may have enough points to apply for residency anyway.

Ta
just know when they come to visit me at home i cannot afford to take them out any where .. except to my sister or mum (bless her!)
My kids are girl 13 and boy 16, he has started work and says he would only see me 2 weeks a year :( ... but what a holiday that would be for him.
daughter says she would stay for 6 weeks in summer (winter in NZ lol) but would hope to go back my self once a year to visit family

Mate , in the same situation. The way I see it is this. You see them for weekends and before you know they are back home. Not much time to settle into a decent routine. The older ones have a life of their own and good on them. 6 weeks every year, and not just the summer here but maybe the winter, would do them, and you, the world of good. There are so many ways to keep in touch, and yep the worlds getting smaller by the day.

Hi Andy
My cousin is an HGV driver, and he was 'headhunted' by an NZ firm. He moves out to NZ in February '08 on a work visa, which the NZ co. arranged for him and his family. They are hoping to settle permanently (in Chrstchurch), by applying for resdency once they are out there.
So maybe it won't be so hard for you to start fresh out there - at least work-wise.
It's a long way from your children. But do you know, I think it's a lonelier to live NEAR family you hardly see, than to live far away and see them for the holidays.
I'm not in the same circumstances as you, but New Zealand is for me a fresh start. And maybe we all deserve that....
I wish you, sincerely, the best of luck with yours.

Don't ship your stuff until you have some kind of work visa or you will pay import tax. Get it packed up ready to ship and stored with removal firm, until sorted in NZ.

Hi Andy - re your HGV question. My cousin says he was approached by
NZ4U. He says they are in England next month, so if you are quick you'll be able to speak to them. Go to their website, go to recruitment, and an HGV window will open. Debra Leech is who my cousin deals with, and they are still asking for people.

I hope this is helpful, and good luck with everything.

Hi Andy
good luck with the NZ emigration front from an ex-Hinckley Lad!
There is an NZ expo at the Hotel Ibis in Earls Court next month. That should give you a good idea of what you are getting into! NZIS, shipping companies, banks, recruitment agencies etc are all supposed to be there.
