If you car gets damaged by another car, through no fault of your own, will you loose your no claims bonus if its dealt with through the insurance companies?
Obviously the other person would need to pay for the repairs to your car but is there any advantage to leaving the insurance companies out of it, if both parties are happy to do this?
Cheers

When we had an accident (NZ) it was the other parties fault, they admitted it and didn't have insurance (not a problem here)
Was going to just sort it out ourselves but checked with the insurance company who phoned the other party to confirm blame and then said no problem, didn't affect our no claims bonus at all and the insurance company sorted out the repairs etc, so was much easier for us.
It also turns out that the insurance company (AMI) were able to offer the other party payment terms to make it easier for them to pay for the damage.
So, would recommend you talk to your insurance company (they can tell you if it will be a problem) - wish we had done it straight away (so much simpler). I also think the third party are less likely to back out of the arrangement if the insurance company are involved.
BTW, hope everyone is ok?

HI,
Im the queen of car accidents this last 18 months, may car has actually been hit 6 times, 3 of which caused significant damage to the car and me!! I am claiming for 3, and I have spoken to insurance company regarding no claims ( as none of them we're my fault)...and it has not been affected!!
The best advice I can give you is.....stay away from me as I seem to attract accidents!!!!;)

Aaahh you are very sweet for asking - yes everyone is fine! :)
The accident was very minor (no one hurt) and actually our fault. The other person has been lovely about it and I think appreciated that we left our details rather than just driving away.
Its actually been their suggestion to leave the insurance companies out of it as they think they can fix it themselves and don't want to put the car in the garage if they don't have to.
If the cost is minimal that is fine with us, but if its not we will have to use our insurance company and I just wondered if it would have a negative affect on them.
It sounds from what holland has said they shouldn't be affected.
